Description
Mrs. Lewellyn began working for Briggs & Stratton in 1956. At the time of her alleged injuries on the job, March 11, 1963, Mrs. Lewellyn was thirty-seven years old. She was working on the assembly line in appellants, Briggs & Stratton, Milwaukee plant as she had done for approximately one year. Mrs. Lewellyn had been at work for about twenty minutes doing what she had done for the previous year, operating a machine which stamps identification tags on the blower housings of Briggs & Stratton gasoline engines. This task involved picking up the blower housing weighing five pounds 13 ounces from a hand truck positioned at her left, placing it under the stamping machine directly in front of her to be stamped, and then positioning the blower housing upon a gasoline engine which moved on a conveyor belt immediately to the right of the stamping machine. While turning and leaning over to pick up a blower housing with her left hand, Mrs. Lewellyn experienced a severe pain in her back, was not able to straighten up for a minute or so, and was not able to continue work.
